The myth and the meaning

To be human is to carry riddles.
The part of yourself you haven’t figured out yet.
The riddle is how you find out who you are.
A threshold that can’t be walked around,
a question that has to be answered before the gate will open.
This is the quest.
Sphinx Gate is where you meet yours.
Most of us are carrying something we’ve never worked through.
A belief we inherited without questioning.
A hurt that never got resolved.
A pattern that persists no matter how far or fast we run.
And there are very few places to take it.
Sphinx Gate is here to hold that space,
and make it available to all.
Sphinxes have appeared across cultures and millennia - in Egypt, Greece, India, China, and beyond. No one fully agrees on where they came from or why they keep showing up. Scholars note the sphinx keeps morphing to fit each culture's deepest questions, and often invites people into a deeper connection with self.
Every sphinx tradition shares two things: they stand at a threshold, and they guard something sacred. In Greece, the sphinx poses a riddle and demands self-knowledge before you pass. In South Asia, it purifies you before you enter sacred space. In Egypt, Persia, and beyond, it guards the divine presence itself.
Fans of The Neverending Story will recognize the Southern Oracle. The sphinxes can look into your heart to see if you feel your true worth. It sounds like a test, but it is a trick question, for perhaps we are all inherently worthy, and it is only our conditioning and behaviors that say otherwise. The question remains: who are we underneath?
That is the quest we invite you on.
My favorite part was relaxing on the mattress to integrate. I thought about the symbolism of the sphinx, and the unconditional love it takes to make art like that.
